2021 Leadership Nomination

Northeast TN DSA holds its annual convention on June 9, 2021. At this convention we will elect a new leadership body for a one-year term. Please use the form below to nominate yourself or another chapter member for this election. If you need to make multiple nominations, please submit a new form for each one. Nominations close June 2, 2021.

Eligibility rules: Per our bylaws, all Members in Good Standing who have been members for at least 90 days as of the date of the election are eligible to run for local office in our chapter. The date of election this year is June 9, 2021. That makes all members who joined on or before March 11, 2021 & who have paid dues at least once since June 9, 2020 eligible. Note: The cutoff could change if a bylaws amendment changing the rule passes at the start of our convention. Therefore we recommend that you not let the 90-day rule hold you back from nominating. If the rule doesn’t change, ineligible nominees simply will not appear on the final ballot.

A Note on Potential Changes: Proposed bylaws amendments which will be voted on at our June 9, 2021 convention may change the make-up and number of elected leadership.

A current proposal under consideration would replace the Local Council & Chapter Development Committee with a 5-person Steering Committee (SC). Rather than people running for a specific position, the SC would decide who among their body will take on/bottom-line the legally required roles (chair, secretary, treasurer). The SC will also elect from its ranks chairs of the five proposed standing committees, which are also set out in the proposed bylaws amendments. These would include Political Education, Administrative, Membership Engagement, Finance, and Liaison committees. Additionally, the grievance officer position that is currently part of the local council/steering committee would be eliminated, and we would instead follow the guidelines of Resolution 33 from DSA’s 2019 National Convention with regard to HGOs.

If this amendment proposal passes, all nominations will be converted to a run for the 5-person Steering Committee, and all nominees will be given an opportunity to affirm or withdraw their nominations.
